Josef Hainz

Josef Hainz (born September 25, 1936 in Holzkirchen ; † February 20, 2018 in Eppenhain im Taunus ) was a German theologian and Roman Catholic priest . He taught as a professor for the New Testament at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Grew up in Holzkirchen as the first child of Josef Hainz and Elisabeth Hainz, geb. Manhart, he attended from 1947 to 1956 the upper secondary school in Miesbach (humanistic branch) and the Wittelsbacher high school in Munich. After graduating from high school in 1956, he began studying philosophy and Catholic theology in Würzburg , which he continued in Freising in 1958 . In 1962, he was by Julius Döpfner for ordained priests . He then worked from 1962 to 1964 as a chaplain in Degerndorf am Inn (now part of Brannenburg) and from 1964 to 1965 as a chaplain in Miesbach .

From 1965 to 1968 he worked as a prefect and lecturer at the Freising seminary. After moving the seminary from Freising to Munich, he was head of the preparatory college of the Munich seminary at Veterinärstraße 3 ("V3") from 1968 to 1972. He completed his studies with a doctorate in 1970 and his habilitation in 1974 (Dr. theol. Habil. For New Testament exegesis and biblical hermeneutics) at the LMU in Munich with Otto Kuss .

From 1972 to 1978 he took on the role of a full-time parish vicar in Rappoltskirchen, and from 1975 was also a private lecturer at the University of Munich, from 1977 to 1980 there was a university lecturer and since 1980 C2 professor.

From 1981 he taught as a C 4 professor for the New Testament at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Since that time he lived in Eppenhain in the Taunus. In the 1980s he worked with a smaller group of students on the Munich New Testament , which first appeared in 1988. He retired in 2001.

As a long-standing library officer for the Catholic Theology department at Goethe University, Hainz was responsible for taking over the legacies of Ernst Michel , Joseph Wittig and Hans Trüb in the department library (today in the archive center of the university library ). Well into his retirement he initiated several symposia to evaluate these bequests.

After an illness, he ended his academic career in 2003, resumed it from 2006 to 2009 at the TU Darmstadt and from 2013/14 held lectures at the U3L (= 3rd age university) at the University of Frankfurt.
