Peter von Podewils (* before 1490, † before 1522 ) was a knight and follower of Duke Bogislaw X. of Pomerania . He was Vogt and Amtshauptmann of Loitz .

Life

Peter Podewils came from the well-known noble family of Podewils , who lived in a castle in Pomerania . He was a son of Adam Podewils and Kunigunde Wolden adH Wusterbath.

From around 1490 he appeared as a ducal councilor, was Vogt of the ducal house in Loitz and later court marshal . The Duke pledged the Demmin house to his father, his brother Ventz and himself in 1495 for 733 Rhenish guilders ; after the loan in 1512, he was the actual beneficiary. In addition to Gut Vorwerk, it included shares in various villages in the area as well as various uplifts and services.

Peter Podewils took part in the pilgrimage of Bogislaw X to Jerusalem in 1496 . He was badly wounded while fighting Turkish pirates . That he had saved the Duke's life before that is not guaranteed in all travel reports. In Jerusalem Peter Podewils received the Duke of knighthood . After his return, the Duke appointed him captain of the State of Stettin , succeeding Werner von der Schulenburg . This was the highest office that the duke could bestow. In 1504 he was reappointed Vogt of the State of Loitz. While he exercised this office until his death in 1521 or 1522, the term “governor” came into use from 1510.

Peter Podewils was originally the heir on Krangen , probably also on Wusterwitz . In addition, the Duke enfeoffed him in 1498 with the Tentzerow and Kruckow estates . 1512 he was with Vorwerk , Schoenfeld, Retzow, Glendelin, Käseke, Plestlin and Gramzow invested . In the first two decades of the 16th century he succeeded in acquiring extensive land holdings in the Demmin area. The possessions with which he was enfeoffed included, among other things, from 1515 also Zachariae with a water mill, 1517 Zarrentin and Leussin near Jarmen as well as the entitlement to the later family estate Sanzkow .

Peter Podewils was married to Katharine von Moltzan adH Wartenberg († 1504), daughter of Ludolf II. Von Moltzan, heir to Wolde and Schossow, documented from 1446 to 1491. With her he had the sons Ventz and Joachim († 1551). The latter was hereditary lord on Krangen and Demmin, governor in Stolp, captain in Gartz and the princely Pomeranian council, who continued the line.
