history

A Slavic rampart to the east of Vorwerk , called the " Alte Schanze ", could possibly have been the castle ( civitas ) of Prince Wilzen Dragowit , conquered by the Franks under Charlemagne in 789 . At the same time, however, this could also apply to the castle complex of Haus Demmin, which used to belong to Vorwerk. Otto von Bamberg , who met Prince Wartislaw I in Demmin on his second missionary trip to Pomerania , stayed overnight in one of the two castles, known as the "old castle" .

House Demmin was a princely seat of the Dukes of Pomerania until the 13th century, most recently of Wartislaw III. († 1263). Vorwerk was laid out at the latest under Heinrich Voss, who was named "Burgmann von Demmin" in a document from 1303, as a farm yard belonging to the castle. The Voss sat, with interruptions, until the 15th century as governors of House Demmin. Duke Bogislaw X pledged the castle and the property belonging to it in 1495 to Adam Podewils , whose son Peter Podewils received "dath Vorwerk" and other goods as a fief in 1512 .

On September 2, 1637, the imperial musketeers were repulsed by the Swedes under the Spanish colonel Don Felix at Podewils' jug . The local chapel was ruined.

Vorwerk consisted of a larger Podewils and a smaller Voss part until 1777, when Hans Heinrich von Podewils merged the two parts into a common property. In 1793 it is mentioned as a village on the Peene and Tollense, which is part of the Demmin city church.

In 1865 Vorwerk covered an area of 4729 acres.

In 1881 Haus Demmin and Vorwerk were sold to Hans von Rohr. In 1939 Vorwerk had 409 inhabitants. The von Rohr family remained in possession of the property at the end of World War II , which was expropriated during the land reform .
