Peter Heinrich Karl Wilhelm von Podewils (born January 12, 1780 in Vorwerk near Demmin , † August 26, 1838 in Demmin) was a Prussian administrative officer and major general .

Peter Heinrich von Podewils came from the well-known noble family of the von Podewils , who lived in Pomerania . His parents were the Prussian captain a. D. and district administrator of the Demmin district , as well as heir to Vorwerk at Demmin, Ernst Peter von Podewils (1737–1791), and his wife, Eva Helene Sophie, née von Podewils (1747–1812) from the Sanzkow family.

Life

Podewils had studied law, from May 1797 at the University of Halle and from October 1798 at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder . In January 1801 he entered the administrative service and until March 1806 worked as an assessor in the government of Stettin . In 1807 he became state deputy. From April 1808 to May 1810 he was district administrator, from March 1810 also chamberlain to King Friedrich Wilhelm III.

During the survey in the spring of 1813 to ward off the threat from Napoleon I , he asked his superior in the administrative service, Lord Chamberlain Prince von Wittgenstein , for a leave of absence because he wanted to volunteer for military service at the front. King Friedrich Wilhelm III. complied with his request and released him from his duties as chamberlain in a letter dated February 16, 1813. Podewils then joined the army in March 1813 and was assigned as a lieutenant to the headquarters of the Russian general Alexander Ivanovich Tschernyschow .

From 1813 to 1815 he took part in various military undertakings, initially in the battles near Lüneburg and Halberstadt (award of the Einsernen Kreuzes II. Class), Kassel , on the Göhrde and then in the sieges of Maubeuge , Landrecies , Rocroy , Philippville . After participating in the battles at Großgörschen , Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig and Ligny , he was awarded the Iron Cross First Class. On the occasion of the Battle of Belle Alliance he was awarded the Russian Order of George IV. Class, the Russian Order of Anne II. Class, the Russian Order of Vladimir IV. Class and the Swedish Order of Swords III. Class excellent. In April 1815 he was promoted to major and assigned to serve in the II Army Corps. In October 1815 it was put up for disposal.

In June 1817 Podewils was assigned to the Garde du Corps regiment . In March 1828 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, and in March 1831 he was made a colonel . In September 1832 he joined the Order of St. John . In addition, since 1835 he was a holder of the service award cross . With the rank of major general, he took his leave in March 1835 with an annual pension of 1,500 thalers.

Podewils married on May 8, 1807 in the Trinity Church in Berlin with Freiin Friederike Wilhelmine Henriette Julie von der Recke (born June 12, 1783 in Berlin; † November 28, 1827 in Berlin; buried on December 1, 1827 in the cemetery in front of the Halle Gate ). The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters:
