Adam von Podewils (Councilor)

Adam von Podewils (born May 18, 1617 in Vorwerk near Demmin ; † July 30, 1697 in Krangen ) was a Brandenburg Privy Councilor, Pomeranian government councilor and chamber president, castle captain of Western Pomerania and cathedral dean of Kolberg . He was the heir to Krangen, Wusterwitz , Wintershagen , Jannewitz and Suckow . His magnificent sarcophagus can still be seen today in the Krangen Chapel (Krag) in the crypt behind the altar.

Adam von Podewils came from the well-known noble family of Podewils , who lived in a castle in Pomerania . His parents were the royal Danish councilor, bailiff and heir to Krangen and house Demmin Joachim von Podewils (1577-1616) and Margaretha von Ramel adH Wusterwitz, daughter of the Danish chancellor and court master Heinrich von Ramel († 1610).

His older brothers were the royal Swedish colonel , district administrator in Western Pomerania and hereditary lord on Demmin, Felix von Podewils (1611–1686) from whom the Württemberg baron line of Leinstetten descends, the Hanoverian general field master craftsman , secret warrior council and governor of Hanover , Heinrich von Podewils (1615–1696) and the electoral Brandenburg district administrator and heir to Krangen, Zirchow and Kummerow Gerd von Podewils (1616–1676)

Adam von Podewils was married to Clara von Zitzewitz from the Varzin family (1626–1704). She was the daughter of Jürgen von Zitzewitz (1598–1652), electoral Brandenburg and ducal Croyschem council, and Auguste von Zitzewitz from the Budow family.

The marriage resulted in two daughters and four sons:

The line founded by Adam von Podewils has expired. This also included his grandchildren, the brothers Heinrich von Podewils (1696–1760), royal Prussian real secret minister of state, Adam Joachim von Podewils (1697–1764), royal Prussian major general in the cuirassier regiment Margrave Friedrich and Otto Friedrich Christoph von Podewils (1702 –1760), heir to Wussow, who was raised to the Prussian count status in Breslau on November 6, 1741 . Adam's great-grandchildren included the extraordinary envoy in Vienna Otto Christoph von Podewils (1719–1781).
