Peter Pongratz (artist)
Peter Pongratz (born May 22, 1940 in Eisenstadt ) is an Austrian painter, stage designer and jazz drummer.
Life
Pongratz was born in Eisenstadt and grew up in Graz . He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin and was assistant to Max Weiler in Vienna from 1966 to 1970 .
Pongratz was at the beginning of his artistic career at the Forum Stadtpark in Graz, and in collaboration with writers such as Wolfgang Bauer, Peter Handke and Gerhard Roth. This connection to the literary scene runs through to the Austrokoffer, which he illustrated.
In 1968 Pongratz founded the artist group Realities with Wolfgang Herzig, Martha Jungwirth, Kurt Kocherscheidt , Franz Ringel and Robert Zeppel-Sperl .

- 1978: Prize of the City of Vienna for Fine Arts in the Painting and Graphics category
- 1980: Austrian Prize for Fine Arts
- 1997: Appreciation award of the state of Styria for fine arts
- 2006: Gold Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital Vienna
