Peter Ressmann

Peter "Resl" Ressmann (born June 9, 1965 in Oberwölz , Styria ; † May 28, 2010 in Unken , Salzburg ) was an Austrian mountain guide and extreme skier .

biography

Peter Ressmann grew up in his parents' gardening business, attended the Oberwölz elementary school, the main ski school in Schladming and then the Schladming ski trade school . From 1984 to 1989 he worked at the Arlberg Sports Center . In 1989 he and his friend Ernst Hinterseer founded the “Total Hinterseer” ski school in Kitzbühel , where Ressmann established the “Alpine Experts” department. Peter Ressmann has been a certified mountain and ski guide and ski instructor trainer since 1986. He was also a FIS racer for a short time .

He was married and had one daughter. After the divorce he lived with his new partner until his death.

Ventures

At the age of four, Ressmann was already on skis and going on mountain tours with his parents, at nine he was already on the summit of the Großglockner (3798 m). He took customers and colleagues to Muztagata (7509 m), Pik Lenin (7134 m), Aconcagua (6961 m), Chimborazo (6310 m), Denali (6190 m) and Elbrus (5642 m), among others .

On July 6, 2006, he reached the summit of Broad Peak (8051 m), making the first ascent on skis on the first-ascent route from 1957 on the way. His colleague Markus Kronthaler died on the descent from the summit . At the end of 2006 he climbed with the extreme athlete Axel Naglich over the east ridge to Aoraki / Mount Cook ( 3724  m ). Your planned first ascent over the Caroline Face failed because of the bare ice .

In the summer of 2007 he and Axel Naglich made the world's longest ski run on Mount Saint Elias (5489 m). The company was processed into a documentary entitled Mount St. Elias , which was released in Austrian cinemas in 2009.

On May 28, 2010, Peter Ressmann led a group of tourists on an "outdoor adventure" through the Fischbach Gorge in Unken. At one of the abseil points he accidentally released the wrong carabiner and fell around 20 meters to his death with his self-belay. He was buried in his home town of Oberwölz.

On the fifth anniversary of Ressmann's death, the episode “Peter Ressmann - A Dedication” in the Bergwelten documentary series was published .
