Peter Rohde (born February 23, 1934 in Berlin ) is a former German officer, most recently in the rank of major general .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1956, Rohde joined the Federal Border Police and shortly afterwards was taken over by the newly founded Bundeswehr (artillery force). After training as an officer at the Artillery School in Idar-Oberstein and the Army Officer School II in Husum , he served as a battery, observation and fire control officer as well as S1 officer and finally battery chief in the 61st field artillery battalion.Rohde took part in the 8th general staff course in Hamburg.

Staff assignments as G4 in the Panzergrenadierbrigade 4 as well as G3 in the headquarters of LANDJUT followed from October 1, 1971 to September 30, 1973, as commander of the field artillery battalion 31 (FArtBtl 31) in Lüneburg, which belongs to Artillery Regiment 3 . In other assignments he was in command of PzGrenBrig 5 and from April 1, 1983 to November 30, 1986, commander of the artillery school in Idar-Oberstein.

On December 1, 1986, Rohde took over command of the 5th Panzer Division in Diez / Lahnstein , which he commanded until September 30, 1991. In this role, he criticized the military commissioner Willi Weiskirch in 1988 . With his "undifferentiated and in some cases discriminatory way of presenting the annual report to the public", he had inflicted "bitter injustices" on countless superiors and had done the armed forces "a disservice". Defense Minister Rupert Scholz ruled that Rohde had violated the form by not adhering to official channels.
