Peter Schütt (born December 10, 1939 in Basbeck / Niederelbe ) is a German writer and former DKP functionary.

Life

Peter Schütt, son of a teacher, graduated from high school at the Athenaeum in Stade in 1959 and then studied German and history from 1959 to 1967 in Hamburg, Göttingen and Bonn. In 1967 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a dissertation on the poet Andreas Gryphius . He then worked as a freelance writer . He belonged to the Dortmund group 61 and in the spring of 1968, together with the building fitter Rainer Hirsch, he founded the “Hamburg Freelance Authors' Workshop”, a forerunner of the “Working Group Literature of the Working World” . As a predominantly lone activist of the '68 movement , Schütt was rediscovered in German literary studies in 2019 as part of the 1968 web project .

After Schütt had come into contact with Marxist circles early on in Hamburg , he was one of the founders of the German Communist Party in 1968 . From 1971 he was a member of the party executive committee of the DKP and from 1973 to 1981 Federal Secretary of the DKP-related and the Democratic Cultural Association based on the GDR's cultural association .

Schütt placed his literary works - primarily poems and reports - entirely in the service of communist ideology, which earned him the title of "court poet of the DKP". He was involved in the West German peace movement and made numerous trips as a functionary, including a. to the countries of the Eastern Bloc, Vietnam and the USA.

When Peter Schütt openly acknowledged the reform course of the new General Secretary of the CPSU, Mikhail Gorbachev , in the 1980s, a rift broke out with the DKP leadership. In September 1988 Schütt was expelled from the party executive committee; shortly afterwards he resigned from the party. Schütt subsequently broke radically with his previous communist convictions and unreservedly admitted in press publications and books that he had adhered to a heresy.

After Schütt married an Iranian woman in 1987, he converted to Shiite Islam in 1990 . He had already converted to Catholicism as an originally Lutheran Christian . In 1996 he made the pilgrimage to Mecca .

For his new political attitude as a conservative value he found a forum above all in the magazine " MUT ". In 2015 he was an editor of the magazine.

According to his own statement, he found his religious home in the Islamic Center on the Hamburg Outer Alster.

Ulla Hahn , with whom Schütt was "in a relationship for seven years [...]", makes in her novel We are expected from Peter Schütt, according to his statement, the Germanist Marga Wiedebusch, who comes from Stade.

criticism
