Peter Tischleder (born February 22, 1891 in Dromersheim near Bingen ; † May 24, 1947 in Mainz ) was a German theologian . He was a Catholic priest and professor in Münster and Mainz .

Life

Peter Tischleder was the son of a guest and farmer couple. After graduating from the Grand Ducal Hessian High School in Bensheim in 1910, he studied Catholic theology at the Mainz seminary until 1914 . On August 3, 1914, he was ordained a priest . Then he was chaplain in Heusenstamm , Mainz-Kastel and Friedberg . In 1919 he took a leave of absence from pastoral work in order to continue his studies in Münster . There he received his doctorate in theology on August 20, 1920 under Joseph Mausbach . In the next few years he was again a chaplain, now in Lampertheim , and at the same time wrote his habilitation thesis. On October 25, 1922, he received his habilitation in Münster. After working as a lecturer and chaplain, he became an associate professor in Munster on December 17, 1928; he also held guest lectures at the Technical University of Hanover . On April 17, 1931, he succeeded Joseph Mausbach in the chair of moral theology . In 1936 he took over the teaching position for Christian social ethics after the professor Heinrich Weber had been forcibly transferred to Breslau. During the Second World War he wrote in 1941 (probably at the suggestion of the Münster bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen ) a draft on human rights, the basis of a joint pastoral letter of the German bishops on this subject. In 1946 he moved at his own request because of his poor health and at the request of the Bishop of Mainz as full professor of moral theology and social ethics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, where he died of cancer on May 24, 1947. The burial took place in his birthplace Dromersheim.
