Peter Willburger

Peter Willburger (born August 24, 1942 in Hall in Tirol ; † March 13, 1998 in Raito di Vietri sul Mare ) was an Austrian painter and etcher.

Life

Peter Willburger, born in Hall in Tirol in 1942 , spent his first study visit in 1963 (thanks to a scholarship for gifted students from the State of Tyrol), newlywed with his wife Eva in southern Italy. From 1964 to 1968 he lived with his wife and daughter, who was born in the south, to Vienna to study with Max Weiler at the Academy of Fine Arts . After this study visit to Vienna, he returned to the south in 1968, this time to the Costiera Amalfitana , where he lived and worked for 30 years. He died there on March 13, 1998 after a long illness; he was buried in his hometown Hall in Tirol.

Services

Peter Willburger, honorary sign holder of the city of Hall and honorary citizen of the city of Vietri sul Mare , has spent his life researching etching technology and the search for "pure watercolor " (water, organic colors, paper pulp). The focus of his artistic work was to discover new values ​​with these ancient techniques. He developed into one of the most important representatives of the art of etching, which u. a. also resulted in numerous awards and invitations to conferences and seminars in Europe and the USA.

Works

His works can be found in important private and public collections and museums: the Albertina Graphic Collection Vienna, the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum Innsbruck, Haller City Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Skopje, Ljubljana, Krakow and Ecuador-Quito, the Statens Museum for Kunst Copenhagen, the copper engraving collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Calcografia Nazionale Roma. After his death, the widow Eva and representatives of the Austrian art and culture scene founded the "Kunstverein Peter Willburger" in order to further spread and preserve the artistic memory of Peter Willburger. The city of Salerno honored the artist posthumously with the purchase of 10 works that are permanently exhibited in the Pinacoteca Provinciale di Salerno, the city of Naples with a large exhibition in the Palazzo Reale in 2001; the Provincia di Milano is dedicating an exhibition to the artist (Il Segno el`Incanto) in Milan on the 10th anniversary of his death in 2008 as well as the city of Hall in Tirol in Hasegg Castle . The Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum is holding a large anthological exhibition in 2010 (Networks with Soul). In 2012, an exhibition of his works on his 70th birthday took place in Ambras Castle , curated by Elmar Zorn, Munich; above all to posthumously honor the portal "Fuga & Quod libet" designed by the artist in 1997 with his etchings.
