Peter Andreas Wuffli (born October 26, 1957 in Zurich ) is a Swiss manager .

Life

Wuffli's father, Heinz Wuffli (1927–2017), was Director General of the Swiss Credit Authority from 1967 to 1977 . The family name Wuffli is etymologically derived from the job title of the wafer baker . Peter Wuffli studied economics and social sciences at the University of St. Gallen from 1976 and graduated in 1981 with a diploma. In 1984 he received his doctorate in business administration . Parallel to his studies, he worked as a freelance journalist for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung from 1978 .

In 1984 he joined McKinsey and in 1990 he became a “partner”. In 1994 he became Chief Financial Officer of the Swiss Bank Corporation and five years later, after the merger with the Swiss Bank Corporation, Chairman of UBS Asset Management. On December 18, 2001, he became CEO of UBS . On July 6, 2007, he was pressured to resign. Management errors, in particular the bankruptcy of the UBS hedge fund Dillon Read, are the reason .

In 2006, Wuffli and his wife Susanna founded the Elea Foundation for Ethics in Globalization ("Elea Foundation for Ethics in Globalization") . Wuffli represents the Elea Foundation as President of the Board of Trustees .

Wuffli was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Partners Group Holding AG . He is Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Opernhaus Zürich AG and President of the Lausanne management school IMD . He is with the Vulgo Ultra Altherr of the student fraternity AV Mercuria San Gallensis . Until February 2010 he was president of the Friends of the FDP .

Peter Wuffli is married and has three children.
