Overripe berries that have already shrunk. A rich sweet wine is made from these berries.

The white wine variety Petit Manseng is a low-yielding but high-quality variety with small and hard-skinned berries. Thanks to the hard skin, the grapes can ripen for a long time on the vine without damage and form a very high sugar content (→ must weight ) through shrinking. As the main ingredient, it gives the sweet wines from the French wine-growing regions Jurançon and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh their idiosyncratic character and alcohol strength. In addition, it is cultivated in the appellations of Béarn , Côtes de Saint-Mont , Floc de Gascogne and Tursan as well as in Australia , California and Uruguay (at the end of the 1990s there were almost 1,000 hectares of Petit Manseng, which were imported by Basque immigrants). In France, the area under vines is 987 hectares (as of 2007).

When fully ripe, Petit Manseng produces wines with scents of cinnamon, exotic fruits, honey and ripe peach. The variety is susceptible to the fungal diseases powdery mildew and downy mildew of the grapevine .

The clones 440 and 573 are approved for viticulture in France . The Gros Manseng grape variety belongs to the same family . A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Gros Manseng, Gros Manseng de Lucq , Manseng Vert and Petit Manseng are genetically very closely related.
