Petra Priemer (born February 6, 1961 in Leipzig , after marriage to Petra Brinkmann ) is a former swimming athlete from the GDR who won two Olympic silver medals in 1976.

Priemer won the Spartakiade in 1972, but could not recommend herself for international youth championships in the next few years. The swimmer from SC DHfK Leipzig took fourth place in the GDR championship over 100 meters freestyle in 1976 behind Kornelia Ender , Claudia Hempel and Barbara Krause . When Barbara Krause failed due to illness, Priemer was also able to compete in the individual at the 1976 Olympic Games . Completely surprisingly, she won the silver medal behind Kornelia Ender and ahead of the Dutchwoman Enith Brigitha . With the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay consisting of Ender, Priemer, Andrea Pollack and Hempel, she won her second silver medal behind the US relay. For these successes she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. After the Olympic Games, Petra Priemer won the 100 meter freestyle title at the European Junior Championships.

At the GDR championship in 1977, Priemer won silver, as in the previous year, on the then non-Olympic 200-meter medley course. At the European Championships she took third place over 100 meters behind Barbara Krause and Enith Brigitha. The freestyle relay with the line-up Birgit Driver , Birgit Wächtler , Petra Priemer and Barbara Krause won the European Championship. The following year, she won the silver medal behind the US relay at the 1978 World Swimming Championships together with Heike Witt , Caren Metschuck and Barbara Krause.

Petra Priemer studied German and was later employed as a qualified librarian at the Leipzig city and district library.

Doping in the GDR
