Justin Steward Furstenfeld (born December 14, 1975 in Houston , Texas ) is an American rock musician . He is the singer , songwriter , recording producer , guitarist and front man of the rock band Blue October . He is the brother of Jeremy Furstenfeld , the band's drummer.
Life
As a child, his taste for melancholy music was piqued after hearing the song Crying by Roy Orbison . Furstenfeld has been in psychotherapy since he was 14 years old. At the age of 22, Furstenfeld first presented clinically. Shortly after his release, he released the album The Answers with the band .
In high school, he began making music and acting. At 16, Furstenfeld wrote his first song, which was about the suicide of young people.
As a student at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA), Furstenfeld founded the band The Last Wish at the age of 13, which released two albums and played there until 1995.
Furstenfeld produced the album Four Days Awake for the band Canvas and was involved in the recording as a background singer. In August 2008 he toured with Twilight author Stephenie Meyer through four cities in the USA, the concerts were all sold out. Furstenfeld is also active as an artist. For example, his drawings were used as cover images for the albums The Answers and History for Sale . In 2009, Crazy Making, a book by Justin Furstenfeld that contains all of the lyrics, was published.
His lyrics cover topics such as mental depression , drug addiction , love , betrayal and forgiveness . He describes the genesis of these texts as follows:
“I don't remember writing these songs. They just come out like that when it gets too much for me. It's like finding your inner peace., I don't feel so hurt anymore about this failed relationship. I'm in a better place now. I'm just waiting to finally write this happy song. I welcome it with open arms. "
In 1996, Furstenfeld appeared in the film Late Bloomers ... directed by Julia Dyer, late rather than never .
Furstenfeld is married and has two daughters, one from a first and one from a second marriage. His first wife separated from him in 2010. He was a drug addict and an alcoholic for some time . Furstenfeld has been married again since 2012.
He supports the organization Friends for Life , which provides information about depression and educates people about suicide . In 2014 he released his debut solo album Songs From An Open Book , which contains acoustic versions of various Blue October and The Last Wish songs. This rose to number 45 in the US album charts.
