The Answers is the debut album by the band Blue October . It was recorded in October 1997 at Sound Art Studios in Houston / Texas and released in 1998 under RoDan Entertainment / Scoop . It is the only album on which founding member Liz Mullally played piano . Shortly after the album was released, she left the band. Due to the contractual agreement with Universal Records , the band was not allowed to sell the album on their homepage or at concerts. It could only be ordered from RoDan Entertainment before an agreement was reached in 2005 to distribute the album elsewhere. The album was re-released in 2008 through Universal Records. Brian Baker was the producer . Most of the songs contain the themes of depression , with the song Black Orchid also singing about the theme of suicide . The cover is a painting by the singer Justin Furstenfeld that he painted during his clinical stay in a psychological clinic. Another picture he made became the cover of the 2003 album History for Sale .
