Jump Rope is a song by the American rock band Blue October , released in 2009 and part of the album Approaching Normal . It is the band's first song to appear in the German single charts . The highest ranking of the song was the 65th place, where the song could hold for 1 week and 9 weeks in total in the German charts. The song is included in the Bravo Hits 68 compilation .

The song is about life, described from the perspective of an omniscient narrator . He begins with Furstenfeld asking the protagonist to remember how he tried to make it clear to everyone in his childhood that he could hardly wait for the new day and that he did not show any stress.
"You just add a little blush. To paralyze your school crush. Now you're older. And the weight is on your shoulder. Make the world a little colder. No more hidin 'in the old day. "
It continues with the fact that Furstenfeld encourages the protagonist to never give up hope, even if the whole burden of life is now on the protagonist's shoulders.
In the second verse, the protagonist has to make a decision and is told that he will get bumps and bruises in the process. Towards the end of this verse, Furstenfeld says that the protagonist shouldn't be ashamed of himself when he cries and that everything negative can change for the better if he just keeps his head upright.

The chorus says that life is like a skipping rope and that it goes up and down, like jumping rope . He thinks that some situations can be difficult, but you should still look ahead.

The video shows the protagonist's childhood. Excerpts from various events are shown throughout the video, for example a trip on the school bus or a group of artists performing breakdancing in costumes. In the final chorus, the video shows people jumping into the water from an elevated point.

At a concert at Stubb’s in Austin , the singer brought several children on stage who jumped rope during the chorus.
