content

The song is about life, described from the perspective of an omniscient narrator . He begins with Furstenfeld asking the protagonist to remember how he tried to make it clear to everyone in his childhood that he could hardly wait for the new day and that he did not show any stress.

"You just add a little blush. To paralyze your school crush. Now you're older. And the weight is on your shoulder. Make the world a little colder. No more hidin 'in the old day. "

- Jump Rope - 1st verse

It continues with the fact that Furstenfeld encourages the protagonist to never give up hope, even if the whole burden of life is now on the protagonist's shoulders.

In the second verse, the protagonist has to make a decision and is told that he will get bumps and bruises in the process. Towards the end of this verse, Furstenfeld says that the protagonist shouldn't be ashamed of himself when he cries and that everything negative can change for the better if he just keeps his head upright.

"There'll be a bump there will be a bruise. There'll be alarms and there will be a snooze. There'll be a path that you will have to choose. There'll be a win and there will be a lose. And you gotta hold your head up high and. Watch all the negative a-go by. Don't ever be ashamed to cry. You go ahead! "

- Jump Rope - 2nd verse

In the bridge , Furstenfeld tries to cheer up the protagonist that sometimes everything improves on its own. It also says that you should not follow anyone, but go your own way and never lose hope.

"I want to tell you that everything will be okay. That everything will eventually turn itself to gold. So keep pushing through it all. Don't follow, lead the way. Don't lose yourself or your hope. "

- Jump rope - bridge

The chorus says that life is like a skipping rope and that it goes up and down, like jumping rope . He thinks that some situations can be difficult, but you should still look ahead.

“Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah. It will get hard. Remember, life's like a jump rope. Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah. It will get hard. Cause it will get hard. (Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah). Life's like a jump rope. "

Video

The video shows the protagonist's childhood. Excerpts from various events are shown throughout the video, for example a trip on the school bus or a group of artists performing breakdancing in costumes. In the final chorus, the video shows people jumping into the water from an elevated point.
