production

The album was produced during the summer of 2005 and contains mostly older songs by the band and the singer . Furstenfeld wrote Hate Me and Into The Ocean when he lived in Los Angeles . At that time he was producing some demos for this album. The album should initially be called Beyond the Sadness and be released on October 11, 2005 . Later the album would be called Living Just to Watch It All Go By . Dan Furstenfeld, the father of Jeremy and Justin Furstenfeld, ultimately called the album Foiled . In 2007, two spin-offs were produced with Foiled Again and Foiled for the Last Time .

Topic (examples)

The best known songs on the album are Hate Me and Into The Ocean . The latter celebrates the suicide of a young man after he has lost his great love. The first two verses of the song contain the man's dream in which he tries to escape death and wants help with it. The third stanza reports that the young man only dreamed and wants to die because his love has left in reality.

Hate Me begins with a phone call from the singer's mother saying that she is nervous about his tense state and wanted to see how he was doing. Then the first verse begins, in which it says that the singer tries not to think about her, but these thoughts become lodged in his thoughts like cockroaches. Then the singer addresses the mother indirectly, in which he asks her if she would never call him again to tell him that she loves him so that he will be happy. In the chorus the singer says that she should hate him for all that he has never done for her. In the second stanza he thanks his mother who helped him to get rid of his addiction.

criticism

Allmusic wrote that the album is better than the previous album History for Sale and that the band's loyal fans would not be disappointed, as the time span between both releases is three years. The critic is of the opinion that you cancomparesome songs with those of Linkin Park and that the albumcan keep upwith the latest releases from Nickelback or Alter Bridge .

Sputnikmusic even went a step further and compared the album to releases from post-grunge bands such as Genesis , The Mars Volta and The Smiths . The critic also writes that it was thanks to the song Hate Me alone that the album achieved platinum status within just three weeks.

IGN describes that the album lacks musical influences of its genre and that the singer's voice does not require additional background singers, which, according to critics, was unfortunately the case in this album. In addition, the critic is of the opinion that the only musician who exuded the most power and strength was the singer himself. What the critic doesn't criticize the band negatively is that, in his opinion, the band jumps from genre to genre. For example, the music style changes from song to song, sometimes rock , then metal , then dance and then country again , which makes the album varied, according to the critic.
