Petrivka ( Ukrainian Петрівка ; Russian Петровка Petrowka ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast of Kharkiv with about 1700 inhabitants (2001).

Petrivka is the administrative center of the eponymous, 83.826 km² in the east of Krasnohrad Raion , to which the village Lypjanka ( Лип'янка , ) with about 80 inhabitants and the settlement Balky ( Балки , ) with about 450 inhabitants belong.

The village is located at an altitude of 116  m on the left bank of the Berestowa ( Берестова ), a 99 km long right tributary of the Oril , 10 km east of the Krasnohrad district center and about 100 km southwest of the Kharkiv oblast center . The M 29 / E 105 trunk road runs seven kilometers southwest of the village .

The village, founded in 1682 (another source mentions the year 1723), was part of the Verhaulinine from 1764 to protect Sloboda-Ukraine from the Crimean Tatars . They attacked the village in September 1769 and captured numerous residents.

coat of arms

The town's coat of arms is in the form of a Spanish shield , crowned by a grain crown. The coat of arms is divided into three parts by silver ribbons, which are colored yellow and blue. In the middle, yellow field, the Holy Apostle Peter is shown. In the blue field on the left there is a stylized golden image of tied ears of corn and in the blue field on the right a Tatar saber and a Cossack spear cross each other, underneath is a bunch of grapes. At the lower edge there is the inscription "село Петрівка Красноградського району" (Petrivka village, Krasnohrad district) in a blue band in silver letters and under it the year "1682".

The image of St. Peter is related to the founding of the village on the territory of the Zaporozhye : In 1682, the Cossacks settled near the Berestowa River, where, according to historians, there were many fish after that time, which enabled the Cossacks to make a living as fishermen. Therefore the Cossacks named their settlement after the holy apostle Peter, the protector of the fishermen. The head of ears symbolizes the agricultural orientation of the region. The crossed weapons with grapes come from the coat of arms of the local regiment on the Verhaulinie and the year 1682 stands for the year the village was founded.
