Petrus von Hatzfeld, 48th Abbot of Marienfeld

Petrus von Hatzfeld (* 1748 in Münster , † April 24, 1823 in Boesfeld, today in Herzebrock-Clarholz ) was a priest and abbot of the Marienfeld monastery .

Petrus von Hatzfeld was born in 1748 as the youngest of three brothers as Franz Wilhelm Hunold von Hatzfeld in Münster. His father was the cathedral chapter gographer Johann Caspar von Hatzfeld. He was baptized on September 8, 1748 in St. Ludgeri in Münster. His eldest brother, Paul, entered the Cistercian monastery in Marienfeld and became a confessor in the monastery Rulle and around 1800 dean in Harsewinkel .

Franz Wilhelm Hunold entered the Marienfeld Monastery on November 1, 1766 under the name Petrus. On June 18, 1772, he was ordained a priest, and on August 21, 1779, he was named monastery cook. Abbot Stephanus Pöttken appointed him confessor of the Bersenbrück monastery on November 3, 1785 , which had been subordinate to the Marienfeld monastery since the middle of the 15th century. On October 7, 1794, Petrus von Hatzfeld was elected 48th and last abbot and prelate of Marienfeld. After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss the Royal Prussian Government informed the Marienfeld Convent on March 21, 1803 that the monastery was abolished, which was carried out on March 29, 1803.

Abbot Petrus left Marienfeld with a 5,000 florin pension to his younger brother in Stromberg . He died in Boesfeld on April 24, 1823. He was buried in Herzebrock .
