Pfarrhof von Kuchl - formerly tower of the Panicher

The tower of the Panicher (also called Turmburg Kuchl ) stood in the municipality of Kuchl in the Hallein district of Salzburg (Marktplatz 1). The rectory as the successor building is a listed building .

history

In 997 the Kuchler servant Gezo had signed an exchange contract with the Archbishop of Salzburg, and as a result a county with a regional court was established here. The Kuchl market was created around 1000 by the Counts of Plain . At the same time a choir tower church was built, which was consecrated to St. Magdalena - an indication that it must originally have been a castle chapel. The church was incorporated into the Salzburg cathedral chapter in 1243 and consecrated to Saints Maria and Pankraz . The Kuchler family who lived in the tower castle in Kuchl can be traced here since the 12th century . After the construction of Golling Castle , it became an administrative center and the old central town of Kuchl visibly lost its importance.

The Kuchler's successors were the Panicher von Volkersdorf (from Schloss Prielau near Kirchanschöring on Waginger See ) around 1436 . This family were originally ministerials to the Counts of Kraiburg . In 1471 Primus Panicher was appointed pastor of Kuchl. He had to prevail against the candidate of the Curia , Robert Storch from the Diocese of Passau and secretary to Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini-Todeschini . After the death of Wolfgang Panicher in 1508, the Panicher founded their own tower castle as a new parsonage.

Panicher family

Epitaph of Wolfgang Panichner

In the parish church are tombstones of the Panicher family, of which Wolfgang Panicher from 1507 is particularly noteworthy. He is attributed to Hans Valkenauer . The inscription reads:

Edl is buried here and eaten by Wolfgang Panicher zu Volknstorff, at the time of Phleger zu Galing, who died on Erchtag before Sand Kathreintag 1507. "

- Quoted from Zaisberger & Schlegel (1992, p. 172)

Panichers (1463) are also depicted in the crucifixion group (praying knight) and to the right of the north portal, always recognizable by a cloth hood. In front of the north portal is another Panicher tombstone, of which only the coat of arms can be recognized.

Pfarrhof Kuchl

The Romanesque tower can still be seen in the walls of the rectory today. In the right part of the building are the mighty walls of the former tower (8 × 8 m) with a vault from the time it was built. The extensions to the west come from a later period.

The rectory is a three-story building with a hipped roof . In the core from 1565 the building was rebuilt several times. The main facade has a wide late Gothic segment arch portal. In the hallway on the first floor there is a stitch cap barrel vault. On the facade are two frescoes Mary with the Child and Christ with the wounds by the painter Karl Weiser (1980).
