history

In a letter of indulgence , a chapel "on the Wies" is mentioned as early as 1500 , which was enlarged in the 17th century and in 1699 elevated to a charity church . In the 18th century the nave was raised and a new roof structure was added . The war memorial chapel in the surrounding cemetery was built in 1923.

The church was renovated between 1985 and 1989 and the original neo-Romanesque style was restored.

Today the Schattwald parish also takes care of the parish of Zöblen and its branch church for St. Joseph .

Architecture and equipment

inside view

Today's church is mainly characterized by a neo-Romanesque construction phase from 1893.

The roof of the church and that of the bell tower of the warrior chapel are made of copper, but the tower roof is covered with roof tiles .

In the tower there is an arched sound window on each side (except the east side), whereby the north and east windows are slightly smaller. The northern sound window also has sound lamellas, the other two sound windows are provided with sliding wooden walls.

Above the sound windows is the tower clock with dials on all four sides of the tower. The round plates are made of metal with Roman numerals , the outer circle is white, the inner one blue.

The interior of the church is equipped with three stucco marble altars , sculptures on the high altar , ceiling frescoes and rich stucco work . The altars, the pulpit and the Stations of the Cross are also characterized by the dominant neo-Romanesque style and date from the 19th century. The representation of the dance of death by Anton Falger , which comprises twelve panels, is famous .

The church was renovated from 1985 to 1989.

Bells

In the bell room there are five bells with the tuning e 1 , g 1 , a 1 , h 1 , d 2 , which were cast in 1948 by the Oberascher bell foundry in Salzburg . The two large bells have a clapper .
