history

The church was originally planned as an "integration building", an idea by Vicar General Franz Jachym . These new church buildings should illustrate the efforts of the church to open up to the people in the surrounding settlements. Jachym gave the order to build a new church as early as 1967, but it could not be built until 1975 according to plans by the architect Armin Dolesch . Before that, the parish center was built between 1970 and 1975. In 1996 the bell tower was built and consecrated. The church was consecrated on January 12, 1997 by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn .

Building description

inside view

Exterior

The windows on the side walls and the roof construction give the reinforced concrete structure an idiosyncratic accent. The roof formation stands out from the church facade and is covered with a yellow-painted iron sheet.

Interior

The church interior is characterized by strict cubic forms and a segment structure based on them. The church roof is supported on the inside by five concrete beams that were integrated into the architectural design. To make these supports more transparent, five circular openings were planned. The light openings are clad inside with light natural wood.

Furnishing

On the altar wall is a wooden cross from the late 19th century. Originally it was a mission cross in the parish church of Kaltenleuthaben . The church also has a small weekday chapel, the interior design of which stands out due to the free roof design made of wood. The cross in the weekday chapel was originally in the emergency church in Erdberger Mais .

organ

The organ comes from the workshop of the Lower Austrian organ builder Franz Reusch from the year 1875. It was bought by the parish.
