The branch church of the Holy Family is a Roman Catholic branch church at Puchsbaumplatz 9 in the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten . The church belongs to the parish of the Divine Word in the Dean's Office 10 of the Vienna Archdiocese belonging Vicariate Vienna City . The modern church building is dedicated to the Holy Family . The building is a listed building .

Location description

The Roman Catholic branch church of the Holy Family is probably the most conspicuous building on Puchsbaumplatz due to the high church tower. It is located on the north side of the square on the corner of Puchsbaumgasse and Hausergasse. The square is located between the thoroughfares Steudelgasse in the west and Absberggasse in the east, two blocks south of Quellenstrasse .

history

The church was built in 1965 and 1966 according to plans by the architect Clemens Holzmeister and was consecrated on December 8, 1966. In 1967 it was elevated to a parish church and on June 1, 2015, the parish was repealed as a result of diocesan restructuring. Since then, the former parish area has belonged to the newly established parish of the Divine Word .

Building description

Exterior

The house of God is a simple, almost square hall building. The front facing the Puchsbaumplatz is opened through glass brick windows. There is a cross in the middle of the facade. The main accent is the high bell and stair tower that has been moved to the street corner over a rectangular floor plan. The staircase of the high tower connects the floors on Hausergasse, which house the parish office and parish apartment.

Interior

Inside the church is a three-aisled hall building. The flat ceiling rests on four pillars. The chancel is raised by a podium compared to the rest of the hall. The galleries are in the south and west.

Furnishing

On the altar wall there is a large altar mosaic depicting the "Heavenly Jerusalem". It was created by Carl Unger , the stations of the cross are by Walter Ritter, the cross is a carving by Oskar E. Höfinger, the angel figures on the tabernacle were created by Heribert Notnagel, the "Holy Family" in the weekday chapel Margarethe Grill and the mosaic frieze "Holy Family" Erwin Reisner.
