The parish church of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic church in the 10th  Viennese district of Favoriten at Laaer-Berg-Straße  222.

history

In 1925 an emergency church was built on this site, which was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The barrack church was both a worship room and a theater hall and was initially looked after by the Capuchin Fathers . In 1926, the Eucharist took over the pastoral care station. This church was destroyed by a heavy bomb attack on November 6, 1944. After the war, a makeshift church was set up again, which was consecrated to the Holy Cross in 1965.

Building

The new parish church on Laaer Berg was built according to plans by architect Herbert Schmid and consecrated in 1986.

Its exterior is dominated by the building materials concrete and brick . The portal faces north on the small square in front of the church. The parish center, which is structurally connected to the church, is located on the right side, while the tower is designed to be free-standing.

The interior is bright and simple and - with the exception of the altar area - is surrounded by a band of colored glass windows . In the center of the sanctuary is the people's altar , to the right of which is the ambo . A large wooden cross hangs on the wall behind the altar. On the left side of the church there is a niche that houses the tabernacle . The baptismal font is also on the left side of the church. The pews are arranged in the shape of half a hexagon , the floor is made up of hexagonal tiles in a reddish-brown color .

There is a gallery above the entrance area, although it does not have an organ .
