Philip Francis Smith OMI (born October 16, 1924 in Lowell , † September 30, 2002 ) was Archbishop of Cotabato .

Life

Philip Francis Smith joined the Order of the Oblates (OMI) and was ordained a priest on October 29, 1950 .

Paul VI appointed him on June 26, 1972 Vicar Apostolic of Jolo and Titular Bishop of Lamphua . The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines , Carmine Rocco , consecrated him bishop on September 8 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Gérard Mongeau OMI, Prelate of Cotabato, and Lino R. Gonzaga y Rasdesales , Archbishop of Zamboanga .

On April 11, 1979, he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Cotabato . The Pope raised on 5 November 1979 the bishopric to an archbishopric and appointed him Koadjutorerzbischof of Cotabato. After Gérard Mongeau's retirement from OMI, he succeeded him on March 14, 1980 as Archbishop of Cotabato. On May 30, 1998, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
