Orlando Quevedo
Orlando Beltran Cardinal Quevedo OMI (born March 11, 1939 in Laoag ) is emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cotabato in the Philippines .
Life
Orlando Quevedo, son of a teacher couple, Community entered 1954, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in and received on 5 June 1964, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1965 to 1966 he was Dean of Studies at the Cotabato Seminary before moving to the University of Cotabato City in his own capacity . From 1970 to 1976 Quevedo was its president.
Pope John Paul II appointed him prelate of the Kidapawan Territorial Prelature on July 23, 1980 . The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Bruno Torpigliani , donated his episcopal ordination on October 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Cotabato, Philip Francis Smith , and the Prelate of Ipil , Federico O. Escaler SJ .
With the elevation of the territorial prelature to the Diocese of Kidapawan on November 15, 1982 Quevedo became its first bishop. On March 22, 1986, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Nueva Segovia . On May 30, 1998, he was appointed Archbishop of Cotabato . From 1999 to 2003 Quevedo was President of the Philippine Bishops' Conference. In 2005 he became general secretary of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences, which he remained until 2011.
In 2008 he was a member of the 12th Ordinary General Assembly and in 2009 of the 2nd Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops . In the solemn consistory of February 22nd, 2014, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Regina Mundi a Torre Spaccata in the college of cardinals .
On November 6, 2018, Pope Francis accepted Orlando Quevedo's request to resign on grounds of age.
