Philipp Ernst Kern

Philipp Ernst Kern (born November 24, 1716 ; different date 1719 in Niedernhall ; † February 20, 1776 in Hildburghausen ) was general superintendent in Hildburghausen.

Life

Philipp Ernst Kern was the son of Georg Heinrich Kern, mayor of Niedernhall and his wife Eva Maria Elisabeth, a daughter of mayor of Niedernhall, Johann Caspar Fischer.

He attended the grammar school in Ingelfingen and the grammar school Schwäbisch Hall and studied theology at the University of Jena , the University of Leipzig , the University of Halle and at the University of Helmstedt and after his studies first became a pastor in Dörrenzimmern and then in Schäftersheim .

In 1748 he became court preacher in the castle community of Erbach ; there he was also consistorial councilor and pastor . Four years later, in 1752, he was appointed superintendent in Weikersheim . In 1758 he came to Hildburghausen and followed Siegmund Basch (1700–1771) in 1759, who was senior court preacher and general superintendent in Weimar , as senior court preacher and general superintendent and Ephorus of the schools in the Duchy of Saxony-Hildburghausen .

In addition to his theological writings, he was also active as a hymn poet and wrote the Passion of the Lamb of God Jesus Christ in 1765 and the song Lord, whom all heavens honor in 1768 in the Hildburghausen Hymnbook and in the Evangelical Hymn and Prayer Book, Meiningen 1862-1919 .

Georg Philipp Kern had been married to Eva Magdalena, a daughter of the butcher Johann Jacob Bühler, in Ingelfingen since September 1, 1744. Together they had several children who were tutored by the private tutor Johann Georg Pfranger .
