Schäftersheim is a district of Weikersheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

The village of Schäftersheim ( ) and the Scheinhardtsmühle farm that burned down in July 1992 ( ) as well as the lost village of Hohenloch (allegedly) belong to the district of the former municipality of Schäftersheim . The small town of Schäftersheim is located in the middle of the Taubertal, which is shaped by vineyards and side valleys. The Nassauer Bach flows into the Tauber in Schäftersheim . Schäftersheim is located in the extreme northeast of Baden-Württemberg, right on the border with Bavaria around 35 km south of Würzburg. The Romantic Road leads directly through Schäftersheim .

In the course of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg on January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipalities of Schäftersheim and Queckbronn were incorporated into the city of Weikersheim.

Fortified church of St. Nicholas

The Protestant fortified church of St. Nicholas is located in the village . It is a choir tower church with a late Romanesque tower. There are medieval wall paintings inside the church.

Schäftersheimer nun as a memory of the monastery

The Prämonstratenserinnenkloster Schäftersheim was 1164 to 1167 by Duke Frederick of Rothenburg in competition with that of Barbarossa bevogteten monastery Loch Garten founded in 1543 and dissolved by the Hohenlohe. In 1553 the last nuns died. From 1555 the last buildings, including a chapel, were demolished until 1590. Today's buildings are only reminiscent of the monastery in their square shape. They are used as living and office space as well as a clubhouse. There is also a hedge bar on the side of the former monastery. In front of the Klosterscheuer Heckenwirtschaft , a small stone nun stands exactly at the point where one suspects the choir of the monastery church.

Weikersheim observatory

The Weikersheim observatory is located directly between Weikersheim and Schäftersheim on the Karlsberg. The Planet Trail, a hiking trail with a true-to-scale solar system, runs from the Schäftersheim – Weikersheim connecting road to Niederrimbach.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economy has more of a village / rural character and is heavily influenced by agriculture. Nevertheless, there are many craftsmen, self-employed and also small companies in Schäftersheim who provide jobs. The Schäftersheim overland plant occupies a leading position in the entire region when it comes to supplying gas and electricity to private households and companies.

Schäftersheim can be reached from the north via the L 1001 (referred to as Würzburger Straße in the local area ), from the east via the L 2251 , from the south via the L 1001/2251 (in the local area referred to as An der Romantische Straße and Klosterhof ) and from the west via the K 2848 .

Gaubahn

The Gaubahn was used for the transport of agricultural goods and people. The station building still stands today, but is privately owned and a living space. In the past, there was a large sugar beet loading ramp on the site of the "Romantic Road South" construction area, from where the farmers could dump the sugar beet directly into the railway wagons for further processing in the Ochsenfurt sugar factory . The rail line was shut down and is now used as a railway cycle path .

Viticulture

Schäftersheim is located in the Württemberg wine-growing region and is the northernmost entry point into the Württemberg Wine Route . Different types of wine are grown in Schäftersheim . The harvest is expanded and bottled in the Markelsheim winegrowing cooperative . But there are also winegrowers in Schäftersheim who develop and bottle their own wine. The preferred vineyard location in Schäftersheim is the Klosterberg . Typical grape varieties are Kerner and Tauberschwarz .
