The Gaubahn cycle path is an approximately 37 kilometer long cycle path in Tauberfranken . About 26 kilometers of this run along the route of the former Gaubahn . It connects the Main Cycle Route near Ochsenfurt with the Taubertal Cycle Route near Bieberehren .

history

Between 1907 and 1992, until it was shut down, the Gaubahn connected the Tauber with the Main Valley . On May 3, 1992, the last passenger train ran on the railway line. The dismantling of the tracks began in 1994, before the expansion of the cycle path began in 1996. Between 2010 (Acholshausen - Baldersheim) and 2011 (Ochsenfurt - Acholshausen and Baldersheim - Bieberehren) the former track bed was paved.

Profile and characteristics

The Gaubahn cycle path runs on the disused Gaubahn route from Ochsenfurt in the Main Valley to Röttingen in the Taubertal valley without any major inclines. The bike path is paved the entire route and is easy to drive on.

Bike trails

The journey can be continued on a bicycle in both directions. In Bieberehren on the Taubertal cycle path via Röttingen , Weikersheim , Bad Mergentheim and Tauberbischofsheim to Wertheim . Or also from Bieberehren on the Taubertal cycle path via Creglingen to Rothenburg ob der Tauber . In Ochsenfurt there is a connection to the Main cycle path . The Main-Tauber-Fränkische Rad-Achter can also be continued at both ends of the cycle path.

Hikers can continue their journey on the Jakobsweg Main-Taubertal from Weikersheim or Creglingen .

train

There are train stations at both ends of the route. The Crailsheim – Königshofen railway line is used for cycle tourism in the Taubertal. There is also a connection to rail traffic in the Main Valley.
