Philipp Georg von Dietherdt

Philipp Georg von Dietherdt (born November 6, 1741 in Hohengrape near Pyritz ; † March 26, 1807 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general and head of the military department in the general directorate, state, secret budget and war minister as well as conducting minister and president of the senior war council. The importance of the general lay in the administrative field.

Life

His parents were Kasper Christoph Friedrich von Dietherdt (* August 7, 1707; † July 11, 1780) and his wife Susanne Amalie, born von Papstein (* February 10, 1717; † March 15, 1764). His father was a second lieutenant in infantry regiment No. 7 and heir to Hohengrape , Dietersdorf and Pumptow. His brother Carl Johann Christoph von Dietherdt (* 1746; † 1809) became a Prussian district administrator.

Military career

In 1757 Dietherdt became a private corporal in Dragoon Regiment No. 3 and on October 11, 1758 ensign . During the Seven Years' War he fought in Kunersdorf and Reichenbach . During that time he became second lieutenant on March 5, 1762. On February 5, 1776 he became staff captain and took part as such in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On March 16, 1783 he was promoted to major and on November 14, 1788, he became director of the Usedom Corps. On October 10, 1790 he was appointed squadron chief and on January 21, 1793 he became a colonel .

On February 6, 1793 Dietherdt was appointed ad interim commander of Posen by General von Möllendorf, making him the first Prussian commander of Poland. For this he received the order Pour le Mérite on April 23, 1793 and on May 17, 1794 he received 150 thalers table money. In 1796 he handed over his position in Posen to Daniel Ludwig von Crousaz . He was then appointed on January 29, 1796, Vice Director of the 2nd Department of the Upper War College. He was able to keep his squadron and received 1000 thalers allowance. On November 4, 1706 he became 2nd General Director of the Army with an allowance of 3000 thalers, but he now had to surrender his squadron. On January 28, 1799 the business of general manager was transferred to him. On May 21, 1801 he became major general and on July 2, 1804 director of the 1st department of the Upper War College and head of the military department in the general directorate. On October 27, 1804 he became state, secret budget and war minister as well as conducting minister on chief and president of the upper war college. When preparations for the First Coalition War began, the previous commander of Berlin, General von Goetze, was assigned to the army and Dietherdt was appointed ad interim commander. On March 18, 1806 he was able to give up his duties again and died the following year unmarried in Königsberg.
