Philipp Herder-Dorneich

Philipp Herder-Dorneich (born July 17, 1928 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German economist and social scientist . He is regarded as a pioneer of the new political economy and was one of the first representatives of health economics in Germany.

Life

Philipp Herder-Dorneich, the son of Theophil Herder-Dorneich , initially trained as a machine mechanic and then studied economics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In 1957 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD . He then worked in publishing. In 1962 he founded the Arbeitsstelle für Sozialpolitische Forschung eV , which from 1964 was named “Research Institute for Income Policy and Social Security”. From 1963 to 1973 he was with his brother Hermann Herder in the management of the Herder publishing house in Freiburg. In 1966 he completed his habilitation at the University of Cologne with the publication Socio-Economic Outline of Statutory Health Insurance , which was awarded the Hanns Constantin Paulsen Prize in 1967.

In 1967 he became director of the Research Institute for Income Policy and Social Security at the University of Cologne. From 1968 to 1969 he was a full professor for social policy at the University of Innsbruck , and in 1970 a full professor for social policy and social economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1973, he received a call to the University of Cologne to the Chair of Social Policy , also Director of the Institute for Social Policy and the Department of Cooperative Studies at the University of Cologne. In 1993 Herder-Dorneich retired .

Philipp Herder Dorneich had been a member of the Social Policy Committee of the Verein für Socialpolitik since 1968 , chairman of the committee from 1977 to 1981. From 1973 he was a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sozialwissenschaftlicher Instituts eV (ASI) and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Walter Raymond Foundation . From 1978 to 1987 he was the scientific coordinator of the Bosch Colloquia on Health Economics . From 1983 to 1985 he was a member of the expert commission for the fourth report of the federal government on the situation of the family in the Federal Republic of Germany . Since 1988 he has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the journal “Arbeit und Sozialpolitik” and in 1992 became deputy. Expert reviewer for economy and social policy of the German Research Foundation (DFG) elected.

He has published numerous papers. Since 1976 he has been co-editor of the journal Medizin Mensch Gesellschaft , and between 1976 and 1982 also its scientific editor. From 1981 on he was co-editor of the “Yearbooks for a New Political Economy”. Important publications are the 12-volume series of health economics (1978–1987), seven publications from the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Soziale Ordnungspolitik” (1981–1993), 12 volumes of year books for new political economy .

Philipp Herder Dorneich was a long-time scientific advisor to the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) . He is a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Bavaria Bonn in the CV .
