Phronesis is a three-man jazz band from London . The trio was founded in 2005 by the Danish double bass player Jasper Høiby . Since 2009 it has been a collaborative trio with the British pianist Ivo Neame and the Swedish drummer Anton Eger .

history

The band performs internationally, including at the Jazz Standard in New York, the Montreal Jazz Festival , North Sea Jazz Festival and the Brecon Jazz Festival .

Neame has been with us since the second album Green Delay , which was released in April 2009; on the first album Organic Warfare played Magnus Hjorth piano. The trio's third album, Alive , was recorded in 2010 for the British independent label Edition together with the American drummer Mark Guiliana , as Eger was indispensable. The album was named Jazz Album of the Year by Jazzwise and Mojo magazines . In 2013, Phronesis received a lot of attention when performing at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall .

In January 2020, the trio announced that after 15 years they would take a longer break from concerts and recordings at the end of 2020.

style

The band sound is shaped by the equal cooperation of the three instruments and is described as equally complex and accessible. The charismatic and energetic performances inspire at worldwide concerts and festival appearances.

According to Jazzwise magazine, Phronesis is "the most exciting and imaginative piano trio since est" ("the most exciting and imaginative piano trio since est - Esbjörn Svensson Trio ").
