Pianos Become the Teeth is an American post-hardcore band that was formed in 2006 in Baltimore . Together with La Dispute , Touché Amoré , Defeater and Make Do and Mend, it forms the movement The Wave .

history

Pianos Become the Teeth was founded in Baltimore in late 2006. Their first EP , Saltwater , was released in 2008 through Dawn Records. A split EP with Ezra Joyce followed in early 2009 . The debut album Old Pride was released in 2009 by Blackjaw Records. But in October of the same year they signed with Topshelf Records, where the album was released again in January 2010. This version got a lot more attention than the first release. Most of the critics praised the album, so Andrew Kelham of Rock Sound gave nine out of ten stars and Brian Schultz of Alternative Press four out of five stars. The album was later also released on vinyl. Then Pianos Become the Teeth toured with Touché Amoré and Lemuria through the USA.

In October 2010 a split EP with The Saddest Landscape was released via Just Say No! Records released.

In January 2011, Pianos Become the Teeth began to write a new album that, according to the band, should be "darker and heavier". The Lack Long After was released in November 2011, followed by a tour with Touché Amoré and Seaheaven.

In August 2014, Pianos signed Become the Teeth with Epitaph Records . The album Keep You was released that same year.

style

Pianos Become the Teeth is part of The Wave movement , which represents a new generation of post-hardcore bands with similar ideological views.

Musically speaking, Pianos Become the Teeth writes songs with influences from early screamo bands like City of Caterpillar and Funeral Diner , but also post-rock bands like This Will Destroy You . In an interview, the group said that while they are honored to be called a screamo band, they generally tend not to endorse it.

Singer Kyle Durfey writes very personal lyrics that often deal with special events in his life. The album Old Pride he sings for example via the "young fire" that can be felt in his youth, and the "old pride" (eng. Old pride ) to be able to feel aged well with his life.
