Pierre-Eugène Gilbert (born January 12, 1907 in Rozay-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne department , † December 11, 1982 in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bliquetuit in the Seine-Maritime department ) was a French diplomat .

Life

Pierre-Eugène Gilbert joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1932 and was employed in the Asia Department. From 1935 to 1939 he was the embassy secretary in Nanjing .

On August 29, 1939, he was drafted into the Navy . From December 8, 1939 to February 3, 1940 he was employed in the naval reconnaissance in Marseille . From February 3, 1940 to July 1940, he was Vice-Consul in Helsinki , Finland . After the military defeat and occupation of France in the western campaign, he migrated via the Soviet Union to Romania and to Turkey and the Middle East. From April 1, 1941 to January 1, 1944 he was a liaison officer in Alexandria, Egypt . He later served in the British and French navies in Algiers and accompanied Charles de Gaulle to Paris .

After the Franco-Thai War 1940-1941 he was appointed envoy to Kuang Abhayawongse in Bangkok on July 10, 1947 , from August 21, 1947 to March 25, 1949 he served in Thailand, which was occupied by the US armed forces.

From March 25, 1949 to November 24, 1952 he was envoy in Lima . From November 24, 1952 to October 10, 1959, he was ambassador to Tel Aviv . In 1960 he was retired .

He then headed the Société des Française des Techniques Pye Sté 128 Boulevard Haussmann, Paris 8e, a subsidiary of Pye Telecommuications Ltd. Cambridge , a radio frequency engineering company . From 1969 he was chairman of Société Immobilière Franco-Allemande (IFRA SA) a subsidiary of Neue Heimat Immobilien and its subsidiary Manera SA
