Pierre Basieux

Pierre Basieux (* 1944 in Vienna , Austria ; † 2016 ) was a Belgian mathematician and non-fiction author with a focus on game theory .

Life

Basieux grew up in Styria and Namur . He studied mathematics with the minor subjects theoretical physics and philosophy at the universities of Munich and Graz and obtained his doctorate. phil. with a thesis on operations research and game theory. He also took his Philosophicum at the same time .

After completing his university education, he first worked as a high school teacher on the North Sea island of Langeoog from 1975 to 1977 . He then worked for various Swiss companies, including a. as logistics director. Since 1995 he has worked as a freelance book author and management consultant.

Basieux was also known as a professional gambler, especially in the game of roulette . At the age of 21 he had developed a calculation system with which he won 70,000 DM. By watching the ball run and the speed of rotation of the roulette wheel, he made a profit of 185,000 DM in the Bad Wiessee casino in 1983 , whereupon the casino management banned him from the house.

He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation .
