Life
Marraud completed a law degree and subsequently entered the higher administrative service. He was prefect of the Aude department from 1900 to 1904 and held the same position in the Manche department from 1904 to 1905 . In 1907 he became director of stamp duty (directeur de l'enregistrement et du timbre), in 1908 Council of State (conseiller d'État) and later government commissioner (commissaire du gouvernement). In the second half of the First World War he was director general for the pension funds at the War Ministry . In 1918 he worked as prefect of the Seine-Maritime department .
Marraud was from 1921 to 1933 General Councilor of Beauville and President of the General Council of the Lot-et-Garonne Department , for which he sat in the Senate from January 1920 to January 1933 . His field of activity mainly comprised budget and financial policy. In honor of his honor, he was given the title of Director in the Ministry of Finance .
Marraud was appointed Minister of the Interior in the government led by Prime Minister Aristide Briand on January 16, 1921 , of which he was a member until January 15, 1922. From November 11, 1928 to February 21, 1930 and from March 2 to December 13, 1930 he served as Minister of Education and the Arts in the cabinets headed by Raymond Poincaré , Briand and André Tardieu .
In the presidential election on June 13, 1931 , two candidates met in the first ballot, Paul Doumer for the right and Aristide Briand for the left. After Briand failed to Doumer with 401 to 442 votes, he disappointedly withdrew as a candidate from the left, but ran again as an independent candidate. Instead of him, Marraud ran for the left in the second ballot. He received 334 votes and was also defeated by Doumer, who was able to book 504 votes for his side and thus won the election.
