Pierrepoint , in the United States The Last Hangman , is a 2005 British film about the life of the British executioner Albert Pierrepoint .

The film was released in the UK on April 7, 2006. It has not yet been performed in the German-speaking area and is only available in English on DVD.

action

The film shows the life of the busiest British executioner Albert Pierrepoint ( Timothy Spall ) from his listing of the country's official executioners (1932) to his resignation (1956). You can see how he copes with his secret job in private, until he comes into the public eye through press releases in connection with the execution of numerous Nazi criminals. James Inglis - the fastest hanging we know of in just seven seconds - and Ruth Ellis are among those executed by him . His toughest moment is when he has to hang his friend James "Tish" Corbitt after he killed his girlfriend.

subjects

Pierrepoint treats the death penalty , especially hanging, from the hangman's perspective. Many executions have been witnessed and continue to shock the end of the film. Yet you don't see a sinister, sinister executioner, but a person who is proud of his work and respects the condemned, especially after they are dead. The secrecy with which executions were surrounded contrasts with the celebrity the executioner gains against his will when his role in executing war criminals is revealed. His work and his family are affected as he and his wife experience both support and abuse in public.
