Piet Stalmeier
Petrus Cornelis "Piet" Stalmeier (born July 10, 1912 in Denekamp , Netherlands ; † September 2, 1990 in Vienna ) was a Dutch composer , conductor and musician .
Coming from a musical family, he received violin, piano and clarinet lessons as a young schoolboy. At the age of 11 he was already playing the organ in St. Barbara's Church in Treebeek , Netherlands. He was an avid student at the Heerlen music school . In 1929 he began his studies at the Conservatory of Liege in the subjects piano with Louis Closson , organ with Charles Hens , chamber music with Jules Robert , harmony , counterpoint and composition with François race and A. Marsick . In 1935 he graduated with the Diplom de Virtuosité and the highest honors. He then studied conducting with Henri Hermans in Maastricht . He completed these studies with Eduard Flipse in Rotterdam , who was the conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic at the time .
Since his father worked as a clarinetist in the wind orchestra of the state mine Emma , he came into direct contact with the medium of the wind orchestra after his studies . He became the conductor of numerous choirs (for example: Rumpens mannenchor, St. David Simpelveld and Kerkrade -Spekholzerheide, choir of the state mines in Treebeek) and wind orchestras (for example: Harpe Davids fanfare orchestra and Concordia wind orchestra both from Treebeek, Heer Vooruit wind orchestra from Heer near Maastricht, Echo der Kempen wind band from Bergeijk , Eendracht maakt Macht wind band from Wessem , St. Caecilia wind band from Hoensbroek ) and the symphony orchestra from Hoensbroek.
In 1986 he was awarded the Nederlandse Blaasmuziek and on April 30, 1987, he was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix . He was a sought-after judge in competitions in Belgium , France , Luxembourg , Italy and of course in the Netherlands.
At the Conservatory in Maastricht he was a lecturer in the conducting of brass bands.
