He learned his first song Visi No Mare from a boy in the neighborhood. By his own admission, he has always loved singing songs more than writing. His first band was called The Everly Kosters, a mixture of the Everly Brothers and his family's nickname, de Kosters . He led her along with his cousin Jaap Schilder.
Career
The cats
Jan “Spruit” Bujis introduced him to the musicians Cees Veerman and Arnold Mühren, at the time members of the band Electric Johnny & The Skyriders. Together with other musicians they founded the Cats , one of the most successful Dutch bands of the 1970s. He has been part of the band since it was founded in 1964. He sang, played guitar and also worked as a producer. From 1968 he became the lead singer of the band. In 1985 the Cats parted ways.
Solo career
In 1975 he had released his first solo album. In 1980 his second album was released with the title Back to You with the single Living to Love You . With his 1987 hit Sailin 'Home he had his greatest commercial success: No. 1 in the Netherlands and Belgium and No. 27 in Austria. Also the best-selling single of 1987 in the Netherlands. Until 1993 he released singles, 10 of which reached the Dutch charts, such as the top 10 hit Walking Together .
Since the beginning of his career, Veerman has received over 30 gold records , as a performer with the Cats and as a producer and songwriter.
Private
Veerman has been married to his wife Neel since 1965 and has one daughter. He is a hobby painter and an honorary citizen in California (1974), Aruba and Volendam (both 2004). In 2006 he was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau with the other members of the Cats .
