List of apple varieties |
Pinova (also Pinata , Sonata or Corail ) is a variety of apples that was created by crossing Golden Delicious and Clivia . Clivia, on the other hand, is a cross between Privy Councilor Dr. Oldenburg and Cox Orange .
In the Rhineland, Pinova was Apple of the Year in 1998 and 2001. It was bred at the Institute for Fruit Research in Dresden- Pillnitz . The breeders were Heinz Murawski, J. Schmadlak, Manfred Fischer and Christa Fischer. EU plant variety protection has existed since 1996 .
fruit
The fruit is small to medium in size. The basic color is yellow, the top color is a bright orange-red and only develops more and more in the course of the ripening process.
The coarse-celled meat is firm, juicy, sweet and sour, aromatic and spicy. The variety makes very good table apples that are also suitable for cooking and baking.
tree
The tree grows weakly. It branches evenly and willingly forms fruit wood. The yield starts early and is very high and regular with no alternation .
Cultivation
Pinova prefers sunny, warm weather, but no wine-growing climate. Since Pinova has a very strong fruit set, chemical, mechanical or manual thinning must be carried out.
Flowering begins from mid-April and lasts almost until mid-May. During storage of the variety, Gloeosporium rot can cause high losses. Pinova is also prone to powdery mildew .
The picking time at Pinova is reached in early to mid-October, from November the apple is then ready to eat and can be cooled as stored until March, CA storage also until May.
Mutants
A clearly stronger and more extensive red coloring mutant of the Pinova is Evelina or RoHo 3615 ( Roter Hofmann ) , which was found by Pflanzen Hofmann GmbH in Langensendelbach . It is marketed as a club variety by the Brandenburger Fruchthandel under the name Evelina . Other common mutants are the Dalinip and Dalirail, developed in France.
