The Pionier is a cargo ship that supplies the North Sea island of Langeoog .

history

The ship was built in 1953/1954 under the construction number 73 on the Schiffs- und Maschinenbau AG Mannheim as a landing craft . The keel was laid on March 1st, the launch on July 1st, 1953. It was completed on January 1, 1954.

The landing craft was initially used as the L 534 by the Wiesbaden River Pioneers of the US armed forces. In 1955 it was handed over to the Bundeswehr, where it was used by the Wiesbaden river pioneers until 1973 . In early 1973 it was rebuilt for the first time.

In 1986 the landing craft was sold to the shipping company of the island community of Langeoog , which had it extended by six meters in September at the J. Diedrichs shipyard in Oldersum . It also received a crane and a transverse thruster . It was then used as a pioneer for shipping in the island community of Langeoog.

use

The pioneer is used as an island supplier. Goods are loaded into small truck trailers in Bensersiel. These are brought on board, first disembarked at Langeoog and then pulled with electric carts from the port there to their place of use (mostly in town).
