The pioneer bridge is a 192.8 m long bridge over the Fulda and Tanzwerder in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony . It connects the Neumünden district with the city center. The current appearance is based on a reconstruction in 1993. After previous structures from 1882, 1934 and 1946 this is the fourth bridge at this point. The federal highway 496 runs on the bridge , which meets the federal highway 3 ( Kassel –Hann. Münden– Göttingen ) which passes the west end of the bridge . A side route stage of the Märchenlandweg leads over the pioneer bridge .

history

Before the bridge was built, a ferry connected the old town of Hann. Münden with the opposite bank of the Fulda. Remnants of the foundations of the ferryman's 9 × 4 meter house were uncovered in a garden plot in 1953. The first Fulda bridge was built from 1879 to 1882 for 390,000 gold marks at the location of the ferry connection  . Only then did buildings develop on the western Fulda. Residential houses were built, the Neumünden municipal cemetery, laid out in 1882, and the Kurhessen barracks inaugurated in 1901 . Its name as a pioneer bridge can be traced back to the city's garrison , which pioneered the barracks built in 1901. The first bridge, completed in 1882, was 198 meters long and 8 meters wide. It rested on 8 pillars made of red sandstone. Because of the unexpected increase in road traffic, a new Fulda bridge was built in 1935 for 2 million Reichsmarks . It stood right next to the old bridge, which was later demolished. The new bridge was 4.6 meters lower with a passage height for ships. Shortly before US military units moved in towards the end of World War II , German troops blew up the engineer bridge. It was rebuilt in 1946 after the war.

Today's haunched girder bridge is a new construction from 1990 to 1993, which replaced the previous bridge. It is 192.8 m long and 18 m wide. Their field widths are 33.5 m, 40 m, 45 m, 40 m and 33.5 m. The bridge area is 3533 m².
