Piotr Adam Wala (born December 16, 1936 in Bystra , † October 22, 2013 in Bielsko-Biała ) was a Polish ski jumper .

Career

Wala made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 . Already in the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he reached a good top 20 placement in 17th place. After three good results in the other competitions of the tour, he reached the 16th place in the tour's overall ranking with 800.9 points.

At the Polish Championships in 1962 Wala won both titles on the normal as well as the large hill. A little later he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 . After jumping on 94.5 and 95.5 meters from the large hill, he was the second-best pole in eighth place. From the normal hill he only managed 35th place after jumps on 68.5 and 70 meters. Wala did not start for the Four Hills Tournament 1962/63 . At the Polish Championships in 1963 he again won the title on the large hill.

The Four Hills Tournament 1963/64 successfully finished Wala 19th overall. A little later he won silver on the large hill and bronze on the normal hill at the Polish Championships. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Wala was part of the Polish team after this success. From the normal hill he jumped twice on 74 and once on 75 meters and thus reached 22nd place. From the large hill he landed in 15th place after jumps on 86.5, 88 and 80 meters.

With the Four Hills Tournament 1965/66 Wala denied his most successful tour. With ninth place in the opening competition in Oberstdorf, he also achieved his best individual tour result. In the overall standings he came in 10th with 782.2 points.

At the Polish Championships in 1966, Wala won silver on both the normal and large hill, before winning only one silver medal the following year. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , Wala started again in both individual disciplines. He jumped from the large hill to 71 and 74 meters and thus reached 38th place. From the normal hill, Wala landed in 28th place after jumps on 72 and 69.5 meters.

After Wala did not get past 97th place overall in the 1966/67 Four Hills Tournament and was not used at the 1968 Winter Olympics despite being nominated, he finally ended his active ski jumping career in 1969.

Walas wife Natalia was a gymnast and Olympic medalist at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne .
