The Piper PA-31 is a light twin-engine business , feeder and training aircraft produced by the US aircraft manufacturer Piper Aircraft Corporation .

history

In the 1960s, the need arose for a small twin-engine cargo, business, and feeder aircraft. The Navajo, which was then developed by Piper, made its maiden flight on September 30, 1964. Deliveries began on April 17, 1967. The aircraft was initially successfully sold. When demand collapsed in the 1980s, production had to be stopped after 2044 copies were built.

The PA-31 has been built in a variety of versions

  • PA-31-300 Navajo , basic version standard with 6 seats which are arranged in pairs next to the central aisle with a view towards the front. Has a cloakroom and a luggage compartment in the rear. Without this equipment, up to 9 seats can be installed. As a commuter version, the machine is supplied with 8 seats and a partition behind the cockpit. The executive version can optionally have this partition from the cockpit. However, the individual seats are arranged opposite one another and have a table in the middle. In the rear, a wet cell with toilet is separated from the cabin by a curtain. Without a wet cell, up to nine seats can also be installed here. Each of these versions could be delivered with three different avionics equipment. This model was also supplied with TIO-540 turbocharged engines under the name Piper Turbo Navajo . This version could also be ordered with de-icing equipment.
