The Piz Dolf ( German  Trinserhorn ) is 3028  m above sea level. M. high mountain on the border between the canton of Graubünden and the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland .

location

The summit is south of the Sardonahütte and can be reached via the Sardona Pass. Access from Flims along the Segnas Glacier is now possible without having to climb the glacier. Both routes meet on the northwest flank. The Grisons communities of Flims and Trin as well as the St. Gallen community of Pfäfers meet at the summit .

Those who can be content with the view of the mountain can do so from the Fil de Cassons ; either after an ascent through the Bargis valley and under the southern flank of Piz Dolf (the path is visible in the vegetation in the picture) or via the Alpweg des Flimsersteins or from the Segnas hut over the Segnesböden.

geology

Like that of the neighboring Piz Sardona , Piz Segnas and Fil de Cassons , the summit structure consists of the very old rocks of the Verrucano ceiling, which were pushed over the much younger layers of flysch that form the base of the mountain when the Alps were folded up . This striking thrust is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Surname

Piz Dolf is the Romanesque name. The German name Trinserhorn does not come from the municipality of Trin, which was spoken in Romansh, but presumably from the St. Gallen Calfeisental .
