Planomicrobium koreense is a type of bacteria . The species is one of the firmicutes . Planomicrobium koreense wasisolatedfrom Korean fermented seafood Jeotgal . The new species Jeotgalicoccus psychrophilus and Jeotgalicoccus halotolerans were also found here.
features
Appearance
The cells are coccoid or short rods. After a while, the cocoids also change into rods. They are motile by a polar flagellum . The colonies show a yellow-orange color.
Growth and metabolism
Growth appears at temperatures between 4 and 38 ° C, optimal growth at 20–30 ° C. The pH value at which growth is possible is between 5.5 and 10, the best growth takes place at values between pH 7.0 and 8.5. Growth takes place at an NaCl content of 0 to 6%, at 7% only weak growth occurs, and above 8% there is no more growth. The optimal NaCl content is 1 to 4%. Nitrate is not reduced.
The catalase test is positive, the oxidase and uredase test is negative. Esculin , casein and gelatin are hydrolyzed . Tests for the hydrolysis of arbutin , elastin , starch and polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), however, are negative.
Chemotaxonomic Features
They are gram-positive , but in old age the gram test can also turn out negative ( gram- variable). The GC content in the DNA is 47 mol percent. The predominant menaquinones are MK-8, MK-7 and Mk-6. The peptidoglycan type is A4α, of the type L- Lys- D -Glu.
Systematics
Planomicrobium koreense is part of the Planococcaceae family . It is the type species of its genus and was first described in 2001.
