history

The first known documented mention of Platz comes from the year 1317. In a property register from that year, Platz is mentioned as a Henneberg fief. Findings of broken fragments indicate a settlement as early as the 13th century. At the time it was built, half of the square was owned by the nobility and half by the Fulda fief.

It is not clear who founded the place, but this may have happened through the von Steinau family.

Since space by climatic influences, war and plague to the deserted village was there until the 16th century no historical records of the location.

Adam Schuhmann from Geroda is known to have settled in Platz in 1515; other residents of Geroda followed his example. Place was again, as it was when it was built around 1300, partly in aristocratic ownership and partly in the Fulda fiefdom.

In 1619, Adam Dietrich von Erthal owned Platz. As Albrecht Dietrich von Erthal, the place was divided between his children Adam Albrecht von Erthal and Maria Gertraud von Erthal. Because Albrecht Dietrich von Erthal was in debt, he had to sell his stake in the place to the Juliusspital Würzburg Foundation in 1661 . After the death of Maria Gertraud von Erthal, her share went to Adam Dietrich's daughters. Wolf Philipp von Schrottenberg, Sophia von Erthal's husband, bought the shares in Platz from his wife's sisters and sold them with his wife's share to the Juliusspital, whereby the entire town came into the possession of the Juliusspital in 1714.

From 1803 to 1806 Platz belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and from 1806 to 1814 to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg . In 1814 the place went back to Bavaria.

On July 1, 1971, Platz became part of Geroda as part of the municipal reform .
