history

In 1050, the Schildeck Castle was built on the Schildeckersberg above the town , at the location of which a medieval sheep farm may have been built. This was pledged several times over the course of time and in 1315 it was divided between the Hennebergers and the Fulda monastery. After its destruction in the Thirty Years' War , according to a tax register from 1650, only "house and castle", two farms and a sheep farm remained.

The unity chapel in the south of the village dates from 1866 . In 1968, an exit to Schildeck was built on the A 7 . In 1988, an industrial area was established in the village, which has since grown steadily.

On May 1, 1978, Schildeck became part of Schondra as part of the municipal reform.
