Obergeiersnest is a hamlet belonging to Schönderling and, like Schönderling, part of the Lower Franconian market Schondra in the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen .
Geographical location
Obergeiersnest is located southwest of Schondra on the 446 meter high Steinknorz (formerly "Geiersberg") at the confluence of the Kleiner and Großer Schondra .
West of Obergeiersnest runs the B 27 , which leads northwards via Unterleichtersbach , Oberleichtersbach and Buchrasen and southwards via Neuwirtshaus (district of Wartmannsroth ) and Untererthal (district of Hammelburg ) to Hammelburg.
The thoroughfare from Obergeiersnest joins the B 27 westwards in Untergeiersnest and leads eastwards as KG 33 to Schönderling . The Franconian Marienweg leads through Obergeiersnest .
history
Obergeiersnest developed from the place Geiersnest, which possibly originated from a single farm and whose first known mention (as "Geyersnechst") dates from around 1520. The place owned by the Thulba monastery belonged to the parish of Schondra and to Zent Brückenau. When Untersgeiersnest was founded around 1550/1560, Geiersnest was renamed to Obergeiersnest for the purpose of differentiation.
The German Peasants' War allegedly caused the residents to leave the place, which was inhabited again by 1532/33 at the latest.
In a major fire on September 12, 1929, five houses, three barns and several outbuildings were destroyed; the damage amounted to 80,000 RM .
On May 1, 1978, Obergeiersnest became a district of Schondra as part of the municipal reform.
